Clinical Psychologists have completed at minimum a masters-level qualification in clinical psychology accredited by APAC, plus a period of supervised practice. Their clinical endorsement allows them to assess and treat a broader range of conditions than general psychologists, and they attract a higher Medicare rebate under the Better Access scheme.

They work in hospitals, specialist mental health services, headspace centres, private practice, and community mental health teams. Common presentations include severe depression, anxiety disorders, personality disorders, psychosis, trauma, and eating disorders.

Clinical psychologists are in high demand across Australia, particularly in inpatient and community mental health settings where complex cases require specialist assessment and formulation.

$100k – $155k AUD

Higher Medicare rebate (currently $137.05 per standard session) makes private practice highly viable. Public sector Band 7–8 positions in most states.
